- General Suggestions
- 2020 Super Baseball - Yourself
A robot baseball simulator with strikes, balls, explosions, and all the fixins. http://www.digitalnintendo.com/wiivcgam ... ameid=1902
- Adventures in the Magic Kingdom (1990, NES) - Oak
One of the Disney games I don't see mentioned as often as others, and also one of the earliest games scored by Yoko Shimomura, who would continue to serve the Mouse later on in the Kingdom Hearts series. The parade's about to start at Magic Kingdom (which in this game for some reason looks more like Disneyland), but Goofy's accidentally locked the Golden Key to the gate inside Cinderella Castle, so you'll have to go about the park finding the 6 silver keys! Features a combination of different play styles, including racing, platforming, shooting, and quiz show.
- Clash at Demonhead - WarioFan63
An action game where you explore an open world with several branching paths. Upgrade your weapons, learn new skills and talk to villagers to carry out a rescue mission.
- Dark Souls for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 - Yakoma
Dark Souls is a 3rd person action RPG. This is a game that we can bring Daniel and my other friend Chris on board. I think Soup is a fan of this series too.
- Fantasty Zone: The Maze (Opa Opa) - Sky-Fox
Fantasy Zone: The Maze, as the title suggests, is a maze game. It has a style similar to Pac-Man. However, instead of collecting dots, you collect coins so you could spend them for weapons either in the stages, or in the shop before the stage starts. In the middle of these mazes, enemies spawn by a dot. The dot will turn to red overtime, and if it's completely red, an enemy will spawn. The only way you could stop this is by passing through the dot, and if you do, the process will start all over again. When you finish a stage, you will get a certain amount of points in the end, depending on how long you took the complete the level.[/quote:3hzjlip3]
- Frozen Synapse - Yakoma
A simultaneous turn-based strategy game. Very unique and unlike anything I've seen before.
- Jagged Alliance - Yakoma
I forgot what the story is but it's a turn-based tactics game with mercenaries. It's the only other old PC strategy game I remember besides the original XCOM. And by remember I mean the name is the only thing I can remember.
- La Abadia del Crimen - Sky-Fox
(The Abbey of Crime) - An adaptation of Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" for the ZX Spectrum by Spanish developer's Opera Soft. Something of a friar-simulator, gameplay revolves around investigating a series of murders while also following the orders of the abbot and the rules of the monastery. The player is expected to attend religious service, eat meals at appropriate times, and stay in their cell at night. A remake of the game with English support is available on stream as freeware(http://store.steampowered.com/app/474030/)
- Legend of the Mystical Ninja - Zanreo
- Long Live the Queen - Zanreo
Seconding this, a great game
- Mischief Makers - Zanreo
- Nobunaga's Ambition - Sky-Fox
Turn-based stragegy game by Koei whose goal is to unify Japan. The player selects a leader and faces off against other leaders in military battles. Army management includes soldier recruitment and training, buying weapons, increasing peasant morale, Forming alliances or hiring assassins.
- Pinball Quest (NES) - WarioFan63
A collection of three pinball tables for the NES. Oh and theres also an extra RPG mode where you play a short little game where you save a kingdom by way of pinball flippers.
- Shadow Complex - Yakoma
The game was available for free while we were all in the synctube. Not only that, it gives us a chance to commune a game from a unique genre that doesn't have metroid or castlevania in its name.
- Sins of a Solar Empire - Yourself
A 4X strategy game that runs at a blisteringly slow real-time crawl. Very friendly to "turtle" players, the emphasis is on long-term build up and distributed power rather than a race up a single tech tree.
- Sonic Adventure (1998, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Windows, PSN, Xbox Live Arcade - Oak
One of the first major attempts in the switch from 2D Platformer to 3D in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and the biggest launch title for the Sega Dreamcast. Play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, a fishing cat, and a robot in 6 different gameplay styles!
- Star Control 2 - Sky-Fox
A game that combines elements of adventuring, role-playing, and space exploration. The player starts off in a ratty spaceship and uncovers the the storyline between upgrading the ship and exploring nearby galaxies. Combat is 2D, real-time and controls similar to Asteroid. Exploration involves conversation between multiple alien species and travel across numerous galaxies.
- Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium - Yourself
Like the third or fourth Fire Pro Wrestling game, this series is renowned for its expansive roster, simple controls, and Suda 51 citations. I gave it a quick demo and it's very accessible.
- System Shock 1 - Yakoma
The First Person Science Fiction Action RPG that is apparently the predecessor to Bioshock.
- The Lords of Midnight - Yourself
From what I can tell reading on HG101[/url:18xz0pi3] this is like a combination of Fire Emblem and Zork, where navigation takes place from a first-person view in a free-roaming world, but the player recruits and controls multiple characters who can come into individual contact with enemies and do battle. Also, it is for ZX Spectrum.
- Turok: Dinosaur Hunter - Yourself
The original DOOM-64-killer is now on PC and Nintendo 64!
- Turrican II - Golem
The second Turrican game.
- flOw - Golem
"FlOw is a game about piloting an aquatic organism through a surreal biosphere where players consume other organisms, evolve, and advance their organisms to the abyss. As part of Jenova Chen's thesis research, flOw inherits an embedded design of active DDA (dynamic difficulty adjustment), players with differing skill levels can intuitively customize their experiences in the zone and enjoy the game at their own pace. 'Addicting' is the most common word its fans use to describe it."
- 2020 Super Baseball - Yourself
- Flight Sim Suggestions
- Ace Combat
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XULNre7uFts - The original flight sim! I actually have never liked this series, there is a lot of chasing specks of pepper in a circle. Maybe it is too "pure" dogfighting?
- Aero Fighters Assault
- Golem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_gtPBCoiTM - Golem suggested this N64 game and IMO it is pretty hard to look at.
- Air Diver
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V3El7JHodM - Genesis first-person scifi jet game that even has craaazy boss battles!
- Lazer Invasion
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGVB2-HNgys - This is a Konami NES game that originally had voice controls! I've played some of it (sans voice controls) and it's fast-paced and satisfying. Unfortunately it's only about 1/3 flying stages - the rest are gallery.
- Pilotwings
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cTyq6iQN7o - We all know and love this "bad boy". I like the idea of concentrating solely on flying different vehicles, accentuating the idea that the core gameplay of a flight sim is learning to fly - and that's the whole game. There are obvious concerns with that too, but I won't say anything til I've played it.
- Pilotwings 64
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LY2EKBebvo - I think this expands on Pilotwings with more interesting environments, but I honestly know very little about it. It's not on VC so probably can't play it anyway.
- Pilotwings Resort
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWPjRhr1bUA - The 3DS Pilotwings actually looks like the coolest. I might have to buy this one. The combination of flight and exploration seems like a unique idea, something you don't get in all the WW2 and jet fighter sims.
- Super Air Diver
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkedJAme_h8 - Presumably this is from the same series but this one looks more "realistic", third-person, lotta Mode 7. Looks kinda boring compared to the Genesis game.
- War Thunder
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4becp_N8mk - This is a free Windows/OSX cross-platform multiplayer WW2 combat sim. As far as I can tell it's currently the most popular online multiplayer flight game. It has both a simulation and arcade control mode, the latter being pretty much 1-to-1 with no stalling or spinning or anything. Not sure what kinda specs it takes to run, but it's at least worth a try.
- Wings
- Yourself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL-qtxNgoHU - Amiga WW1 game that is part first-person dogfighting and then some overhead isometric strafing runs. Kinda cool-looking.
- Ace Combat
- Yourself
- Sega Genesis Suggestions
- Alisia Dragoon - Sky-Fox
- Atomic Robokid - Shouty
- Landstalker - WarioFan63
- Rhythm Suggestions
- Audiosurf - Yourself
- Frequency
- WarioFan63
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency_(video_game)
- Gitaroo Man (ps2) - Zanreo
- Harmoknight (3DS) - Zanreo
- Moon Dust
- Sky-Fox
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QJ4ugnYqLM - A C64 game with music generated by player actions. Looks confusing, a little trippy, and not very fun? I like the music.
- Otocky (FDS) - WarioFan63
Shmup meets rhythm in this Famicom Disk System game! You travel through levels collecting musical notes in order to get to the boss. The level loops until you've collected all the notes, but enemies replace the ones you already got so watch out! Every shot you take becomes the levels theme tune which is amplified as you collect more notes.
- Ouendan 2 (ds) - Zanreo
- Pixeljunk Eden - Yourself
- Rhyme Rider Kerorican - Sky-Fox
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Dc3L6-e3fU&t=1m - Seems to be a Vib-Ribbon clone, except for the Wonderswan and without the nifty artstyle.
- Rhyme Rider Kerorican - Zanreo
- Rhythm Tengoku (gba) - Zanreo
- Rhythm Tengoku (the first one) - Golem
- Space Channel 5 part 2 - Zanreo
- Taiko Drum Master (DS). - Sky-Fox
- pop n' music portable (psp) - Zanreo
(can't find a video but has an "adventure mode" that would be especially fun to talk about)
- pop n' music portable 2 (psp) - Zanreo
Now that I've played it I can say it's an upgrade from the first game in many ways, here's an Adventure/Party mode video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2e7c2WXeCE
- Shmup Suggestions
- Cotton 100% - Yourself
- Elemental Master - Yourself
- Harmful Park (PS1) - WarioFan63
One of the more custier style games. The goal is to defeat a mad scientist that has taken over an amusement park. Your weapon arsenal includes things like Potatos (bullets), Ice Cream (lasers), and Pies (arc shots). Features equally bizarre enemies and bosses. Just look at that smug dogcopter. You know he's up to no good!
- Jamestown - Golem
An introduction to bullet hell staples like rapid vs. focus attacks, interesting scoring systems, and of course, bullets a-plenty. Your progress is saved between levels, and there are multiple difficulty settings, allowing you to get your feet wet before really taking on challenge. Jamestown features great stage design, a welcoming difficulty curve, and multiple playable ships.
- Jikkyo Oshaberi Parodius - Zanreo
- Metal Torrent (DSiWare) - WarioFan63
You caught me! I only said this one because it has Nintendo's name on it. It's really more of a score chaser game than a regular shmup. For the newcomers you can set it so that enemies come in the same pattern every time and pick a ship that is basically OP and doesnt explode on impact. For the pros you can have enemies come in random patterns and pick your standard instant-death-if-anything-happens ship.
- Raystorm - Yourself
- Sine Mora (PS3/Vita/360/PC/iOS) - WarioFan63
The theme for this game is time. You have a limited amount of time to get to the end of the stage. Once it runs out, the game's over. "But its an auto-scroller! How am I supposed to race the clock?" you ask. It's simple! Beating enemies increases your time limit and there are special abilities that can manipulate time in your favor. Your ship wont go kaput until the countdown ends so you dont have to worry about death-on-impact but every hit you take will make the countdown go faster.
- Sol Divide - Yourself
- Supercharged Robot VULKAISER - Golem
- Zero Wing - Zanreo
the meme game, you all know this one
- Zero Wing - Yourself
- First Person Shooter Suggestions
- Descent - Golem
- Doom 2 - Yourself
- Marathon - Sky-Fox
- Quake - Yakoma
- Star Wars: Dark Forces - Golem
- RPG Suggestions
- Deus Ex - Yakoma
The action RPG that offers multiple solutions to problems and a rich character development system with various skills, augmentations, weapons and item selections.
- Fallout 1 - WarioFan63
- Fallout 1 (PC / Mac) - Sky-Fox
A CRPG set in a post-apocalyptic Southern California, 83 years after a nuclear war transformed the United States. The PC known as "Vault Dweller" is asked to leave their vault, a fallout shelter constructed to last generations, when the water-purifying chip shows signs of malfunction. Fallout is a relatively short (~20 hours) nonlinear CRPG featuring turn-based combat and a strong emphasis on player-driven narrative and reactivity.
- Just a reminder for Dark Souls. I already put a complete post of it in the general nominations thread - Yakoma
- Paper Mario (Nintendo 64) - WarioFan63
A turn based game with an emphasis on timed hits featuring a unique art style, simple gameplay, a multitude of sidequests and a Goomba who seems to have something to say about everything. The chapter-based gameplay makes it easy to divide the game up into different gameplay sessions ala Live A Live.
- Radiant Historia (2010, DS) - Oak
Because if there's one thing better than RPG fun, it's RPG fun mixed with time travel fun.
- Shadowrun (Gen/MD) - Sky-Fox
Cyberpunk WRPG adapted from the pen and paper role-playing game of the same name. Features some player customization and a non-linear narrative where you investigate your brother's murder. Real-time combat. Choose from one of three player archetypes: Samurai, Decker, or Gator Shaman.
- Suikoden 2 - Yourself
This Playstation 1 RPG is often considered quite the classic! Do-re-mi Fan-ta-sy indeed!
- Sweet Home - Yourself
A spooky single-setting Famicom RPG with emphasis on mystery, it's usually cited as the precursor to Resident Evil and the survival horror genre.
- System Shock 1 - Yakoma
The First Person Science Fiction Action RPG that is apparently the predecessor to Bioshock.
- Deus Ex - Yakoma
- 20XX - waithwat (General Suggestion)

- Azure Striker Gunvolt - Golem (General Suggestion)
- BOXBOY! - Golem (General Suggestion)
- Bal Cube - Shouty (General Suggestion)
- Bugaboo (The Flea) - Golem (General Suggestion)
An ancient PC platformer from 1983. Your job is to escape a cave using only two buttons: one jumps to the left and the other jumps to the right. Depending on how long you hold the button, you can vary your jump length. This game is unique not only for its control scheme but also its genre: it's a sprawling, open-world platformer released one year before Pitfall 2.
- Counterfeit Monkey - Sky-Fox (General Suggestion)
- Demon's Crest - WarioFan63 (General Suggestion)
- Ecco the Dolphin - WarioFan63 (General Suggestion)

- Gokujou Parodius - Zanreo (General Suggestion)
- Illusion of Gaia - Golem (General Suggestion)
- Live-a-Live - SoupEgg (General Suggestion)
- Long Live the Queen - Oak (General Suggestion)
A skill-management visual novel. You play Princess Elodie, a 14-year-old fantasy princess whose mom just died. It's up to you to prepare her in the weeks leading up to her coronation, by choosing what she does and learns. There are two things you control - what activities she does in her free time, which effects her Mood, and choosing what lessons she takes each week. Penalties or Bonuses apply to certain subjects depending on what Mood Elodie is in, and the lessons essentially raise specific skills. The story progresses and allows you to make choices and branches, but depending on how high or low certain skills are, some choices or even full story branches may be unavailable. Also, if you haven't picked the right skills, Elodie may die. A lot. The game is known for being surprisingly brutal for the type of game it is, but with great story, and a lot of fun and interesting ways you can take her. How will Elodie fare under your hands? Will she become a kind and loving leader, a cruel tyrant, a magical girl? Or will she die from eating chocolate? You decide!
- Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse - Golem (General Suggestion)
- Master of Darkness - Golem (General Suggestion)
- Metal Black - Yourself (Shmup Suggestion)
A 1991 arcade/Saturn horizontal shooter originally planned as Darius III. The game revolves around a simple system where mini DNA power-ups constantly swarming the screen slowly fill a power meter. Meter level increases the power and size of standard bullets and determines the form of the player's bomb-like hyper laser, which itself empties the meter and resets power to 0. The coolest part is that bosses power up / use hyper lasers / power down the same way you do, so DNA collection is a constant tug-of-war. The art and music are also fantastic.
