Weapons

One interesting point to this game is its multiple weapons. They kind of go for a tradeoff between range and power, except I'm pretty sure the knife is generally useless. It's there to make sure you start out with a gimped weapon, I guess?
What weapon do you generally go with? Do you try to experiment with different weapons in different contexts, or do you find one that's good and stick with it?
And, well, maybe it's not fair to drag Castlevania into this, but I want to. I kind of wish there was a Castlevania that did this. Bloodlines has multiple weapons, and it's pretty cool to try the game with both.
