Many stages have a second exit marked by a star above the door. When you find one, post it here! :wario

The hippo level has a star exit!

Tree Zone 2 is our next stop for a star exit. It's the tree sap level!

For this exit, you'll need to be Bunny Mario. If you aren't in Bunny form already, you can get a by going down this pit. It's just past the midway bell (see?!).

Be sure to grab the M bag on your way down. This block is invisible! If you wanted proof that I've put too many hours into the game, here it is.

This bottom path is a huge bed of spikes with noko bombettes to bounce on. You'll need a carrot to get through unscathed.

The path spits you out near the end of the level--to the right here is the goal door. But since we want the star exit, you should go up the tree sap to your left.

You'll see this at the top. You need to get into that alcove at the top right.

You can make it in if you jump off of this ledge. And don't let the noko damage you! It's so embarrassing to lose Bunny Mario at this point.

Ta-da! You got the star exit.

Here's your extra level! It's the koopa level. Contrary to what I said in Adrian's stream, you don't get an extra life if you kick a shell through a row of enemies.

Here's something Wariofan pointed out to me! Once you beat the level, you get these cool flowers on the map screen.

dang nice greenshots! wish nintendo would enable that on VC, even if that isn't their normal mo every other game boy emulator does it.

The very first level of Macro Zone has its star exit!

Past the midway bell, there's a path split. If you're Fire Mario, you can skip the next four screenshots. If you aren't, take the lower path, and you'll end up here. You need to be at least Super Mario.

The box has a Fire Flower!

You can use it to get in that pipe. Just be sure to run over top of the gap--don't try to jump from below. You can't duck jump in this game, so there's no way in this hole once you create the invisible block! (Unless you're Small Mario, but then, you wouldn't be able to fry the blocks clogging the pipe...)

This pipe has nothing to do with the star exit (sorry, everybody). But hey, take heart! You get three lives.

Anyway. If you already had a Fire Flower, you can skip to this screenshot. Here, after the midway bell, I've taken the upper route. Above this row of ? blocks...

...and a secret pipe. You got the Fire Flower so you could unclog this sucker!

This is the only star exit in the game that activates a shortcut. After you beat the secret level (an autoscrolling level), you head right to the final stage of Macro Zone!

Pumpkin Zone is seated within a dense forest... but you can still see that it's got two levels in its yard!

So there must be some star exits afoot, right? Let's check out Pumpkin Zone 2.

Past the midway bell, you'll swim by some cheep cheeps and end up in this goofy vertical segment. You'll need a spin jump up ahead, so take the mushroom if you need it.

Eventually, you'll come across this path split under a ? block with a star in it.

Take the bottom path. In the second pool, you'll find a mysterious drain...

...that leads to a claustrophobic underwater passage. It sure would be convenient if you could be Small Mario, right? Just the designers trying to make things extra painful for you.

We still have one star exit to go in Pumpkin Zone, and there's only one level left before the boss. Can you guess where Pumpkin Zone's next star exit will be?

Trivia: did you know this level has zero bottomless pits? Scary, I know, but there's no pit that will throw you offscreen!

You gotta have a carrot for this one! This ? block in the first blinky-block section always has a carrot, no matter what your size.

And this blinky-block segment after the midway bell has a hidden ? block! This one also has a carrot regardless of your size. Wowza!

Past that segment is one giant drop. Don't go down! Instead, float over the gap...

As they say, bada bing, bada boom. This secret level gives you bonuses if you take the Fire Flower powerup. And that's especially scary, since it takes place over a bottomless pit!

Last, but certainly not least, comes the star exit in Turtle Zone!

Early in the stage, there's a vertical shaft with gordos and ? blocks. At the top, take the left branch.

This is a first! You have to be Small Mario. Use the koopa to hurt yourself if you need to (dying once is optional).

On the other side is a pipe taking you to a claustrophobic swimming gauntlet.

But hey! You get a star exit for your troubles.

Aha, the last secret level in the game. This is my favorite one, since it spells MARIOLAND2.
